The Character of the Muslim - Muhammad Al Ghazali
"The Character of the Muslim," the translation of Sheikh Muhammad Al Ghazali's "Khuluq al-Muslim," is dedicated to the comprehensive nature of Islamic morality, which encompasses all aspects of private and public life. Islamic morality is not limited to the Muslim community but extends to human society in general. Islam links the origin of all human beings to a single set of parents and advocates the principle of equality and justice for all human beings regardless of race, color, or creed. It respects all life, whether human or animal, and treats it with compassion and kindness. As a religion of the Middle Way, it rejects extremism and emphasizes tolerance, forgiveness, and moderation. The reform of society begins with that of the individual. The essential qualities of the Muslim character are God-consciousness, truthfulness, trust, sincerity, tolerance, forgiveness, patience, fairness, brotherhood, love, mercy, and generosity. They were made visible by the living example of the Messenger of God, who was sent to perfect the character of humanity. A Muslim is someone who emulates this example.
Muhammad Al Ghazali (d. 1996) was a modern thinker and scholar from Egypt, not to be confused with his namesake Imam Abu Hamid Al Ghazali from the 11th century!
