Guidelines for a Community in Competing in the Way of Allah - Yalcin Icyer
We must take the following clauses as our maxim:
The Mu'min is...
… knowing in his actions
… profound in its spirit, [all]embracing
… current in his thinking.
"The Din and its associated values are universal. We, however, are located at a specific point in this universality and must not take the point where we are as our midpoint or center. Such a view is extremely dangerous."
1. General and clear principles
These are not just valid for us alone, but are principles shared by all Muslims. At the same time, they also form the foundation.
2. Political and methodological principles
Although these principles may be general and shared by all Muslims, they also contain principles that are binding only for us. Thus, they are shared values, but they may imply various binding factors. They may differ in the time and place of their inception, as well as in the method. For example, the principles of the political system are generally the same, but the manner of application or implementation may vary.
3. Fiqh Principles
These are principles based entirely on ijtihad6 and are binding only for us. For this reason, they must never be used to divide different Muslims, as they may vary from place to place and deal with details (of expression). Given this, we have no principle in the foundation of the Din that could or should be attributed only to us[...]
